Wunderkammer, 01 Apr 2010 09:01 pmTHIS ISN'T WUNDERKAMMER! IT REALLY IS A TRAP THIS WEEK! - April Fools!
Sorry, everyone :( This week has been insane, as anyone living in New England can attest. Thankfully we never got more than two inches of water in the basement (no doubt thanks to my father and me bailing it out with cooking pots and five-gallon buckets), but our backyard was completely underwater and pretty much all of the roads out of town were transformed into white water rapids. It was intense. And time consuming. I actually tried to get this page up tonight, but there's no way that's going to happen =.= But I'm hoping to get the real page 42 up before the weekend is out, and be back to our normally scheduled programming in time for next week's update.
IN THE INTERIM. Please enjoy this painting. I...love this painting. I once created an entire presentation about Jane Austen and the Gothic for my college English Senior Seminar for the sole purpose of forcing twelve girls to stare at this masterpiece and listen to me rant about how unappreciated Northanger Abbey is. OH MY GOD, THIS PAINTING. I think it's the horse. It kills me. Seriously, I laughed for the entire hour-long lecture, and I think it was only on display for maybe five minutes.
For this great work of art, you may thank Mr. Henry Fuseli, a Swiss artist famous for his preference for grotesque and supernatural subject matter. "The Nightmare" is considered by most art historians to be his signature work, and later became the basis for all swooning ladies in the horror genre, from Mary Shelley's Frankenstein to an episode of Johnny Quest. I kid you not. The little gremlin is supposed to be a Victorian metaphor for sexual abandon (lolwut), but I've never found out what the horse is supposed to represent. THAT HORSE!
In hilarious news, way back in September I drew a guest comic for my friends over at [citation_needed], which finally got used! Not gonna lie, I totally forgot about ever drawing it until I saw it this morning, haha. Seriously, though, the best part is the comments, wherein several historical figures try to one-up each other with their life's accomplishments. Guess which I am?! 8D
Well, I didn't make my 100 fan goal, but still, a huge welcome to our new members :D Red Rabbit, I looked into Project Wonderful, and will definitely whip up some ad-quality arts in my (non-existent) free time. Along with character art and profiles >.>

Oh, and I think it's supposed to be an incarnation of the nightmare, or really, the "night MARE." posted by pinemarten127 on 10 Apr 2010 10:36 am |
